Below is an except from a Palmieri Library Furniture brochure...
For more then 35 years, Palmieri Furniture has handcrafted library furnishings of exceptional quality for educational facilities across North America. Our collections stand the test of time…but can the same be said of the forests from which our premium hardwoods are harvested?
The answer is yes. Palmieri Furniture has partnered with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to offer FSC-certified products that support responsible forest management and conservation. At a time when making “greener” choices is a priority for our learning institutions, we’re proud to be among a select few who may offer an environmentally-responsible alternative to the designers, architects and engineers who serve them.
About the Forest Stewardship Council
A non profit organization with an international presence, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was founded in 1993 to “promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.”
One manner in which the FSC endeavors to support environmentally sound forestry practices is through the certification of well manages forests by third-party FSC accredited certifiers. Forest Certification is a voluntary program that is open to all forest managers. The FSC certification label assures manufacturers and consumers that the wood products they are purchasing were not harvested at the expense of forests or the stability of communities nearby.
Chain of Custody Certification
Wood products such as furniture may only carry the FSC label if their manufacturer is Chain-of-Custody (COC) certified by an FSC Accredited Certifier. Palmieri Furniture earned COC certification in 2002 after successfully completing the Rainforests Alliance Smart Wood Program.
The COC process allows a wood product to be tracked from a tree in a well-managed forest, through all stages of processing and production, and finally to its final form. COC certified manufacturers like Palmieri have demonstrated that certified materials are kept separate from non-certified materials, and that certified materials can be tracked throughout the entire production process.
By choosing COC certified materials, architects can meet standards for environmentally responsible construction or renovation, such as those prescribed by the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
An Eco-Friendly Choice
By partnering with FSC in Chain-of-Custody certification, Palmieri is among a minority of furniture manufacturers who can offer FSC certified wood pieced to the marketplace. Today any one of our library collections may be handcrafted using FSC-certified wood. It’s an option that empowers our customers to support environmentally and socially responsible forestry…as we at Palmieri Furniture do.
