Tesco's Green Initiatives!
• U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) http://www.usgbc.org/ Tesco is a proud member of the USGBC. The core purpose of USGBC is “to transform the way buildings are designed, build and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous build environment that improves the quality of life in communities”.
• USGBC’s LEED Rating System This standard based program certifies buildings that follow stringent guidelines developed to reduce negative impacts to the environment. Furniture does not receive certification but it can help the building project earn credits. Contact Tesco to obtain our detailed overview addressing the LEED credits that can be impacted.
Tesco is continuously seeking ways to be the best steward of the environment possible. Some examples of current techniques and controls are:
• UV Cured Finish System - In 2002, Tesco invested in a state of the art, UV cured flat line finish system. This system produces fantastic finish and it does so in a manner that releases virtually zero volatile organic compounds (VOC).
• No Added Urea Formaldehyde - Tesco manufactures its products in a manner where adhesives used do not contain any added urea formaldehyde. Also, the design of our products does not call for any adhesives to be used at the final building site in the installation process.
• Blanket Wrapped Delivery - Tesco prefers to ship its products through preferred carriers that allow the use of blanket wrap shipments. This method creates little if any cardboard or plastic wrappings to be dealt with at the building site. Packaging, when utilized, will consist of recyclable materials
• Manufacturing Facility - Our facility is designed where virtually no energy is used for heating and cooling systems.
• Scrap Wood Recycle Program - In 2002, Tesco put in a program that converts scrap wood into a mulch product for use by local farmers for soil improvement and local companies for energy creation. This program reduced our landfill waste generated by over 75%.
