When the students arrived at their new 245,000 sq ft school in September of 2005, they found an environment not typical of the average high school. Their new building was a study in sustainable design with features including a rooftop garden over the first-floor cafeteria and extensive natural lighting.
The second floor Media Center was no different. With windows lining the entrance corridor looking out over the well manicured garden on one side and an accessible patio on the other, it was important that the furnishings did not overpower this bright, open space.
Longo provided a simple wood and steel shelving system with a step down configuration allowing clear sight lines from all areas of the library. The clean and simple lines of the shelving offered the perfect backdrop to the computer stations with their perforated steel side screens. The progressive design of computer stations helped to make technology a focal point of room.
